Brand information Streetwear for men, women and kids
Bob Hurley proves that you can be 23 years old and the founder of two huge surfboard labels in the US already. That’s impressive! Hurley as a brand was founded in 1979 by Bob Hurley along with his Business partner Bob Rowland and Business Manager Joe Knoernschild. After that Hurley worked for five years as a surf board shaper for various companies - including Lightning Bolt, Wind-an-Sea and Wave Tools. In the early 1980s, Hurley Surfboards excelled as a company and Bob was shaping surfboards for many of the best surfers in the world. In 1982, Bob and his business manager, Joe K., bought a hot Australian clothing brand, Billabong. Bob was attracted to the company because of their super long, punk rock boardshorts styles. With the help of friends and family, Billabong USA was established as a separate entity and licensee for Billabong. By the mid-1980s Bob and his team were committed to do things differently and took full responsibility for design, sourcing, marketing and stuff. By the end of 1998, it was clear that the team had its own vision for the future that did not necessarily serve the interests of Billabong globally. Coincidentally, the license agreement between Hurley and Billabong was up for renewal. With much gratitude, Bob and his team returned the Billabong license and decided to relaunch Hurley. In 2002, Nike absorbed Hurley and from this day on Hurley started to develop footwear next to swimwear. The best examples are the Hurley Phantom X Nike Free Sandals with the high-functional Nike Free™ technology and high breathability due to the Spacer Mesh™ technology. But Hurley is also working and creating autonomously from Nike and so they remain true to themselves. The Hurley Phantom Boardshorts and all the beach culture inspired streetwear will live on forever as it does for the last 30 years. Hurley surfs on!
