Griptape: General Info<\/h2>\r\n\r\n    <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      <a href=\"\/en\/skateboard-griptape\" title=\"Skateboard Griptape in the skatedeluxe Skate Shop\">Griptape<\/a> is a kind of emery or sandpaper which is glued to the top side of a skateboard deck. It gives you secure footing and allows you to perform various tricks.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <h3>What is griptape made of?<\/h3>\r\n\r\n    <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      The rough surface of griptape typically consists of silicon carbide and provides resistance and friction between your deck and the soles of your shoes. \r\n      Without this friction, it\u2019d be extremely hard to get your deck into the air.  \r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      Griptape comes in different colours, with different prints and graphics, brand logos, or even with small cut-outs. \r\n      Since some brands are coming out with decks with increasingly elaborate graphics and designs, transparent griptape is also becoming quite popular.  \r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      A standard sheet of griptape is 9&#8243; x 33&#8243; (22.8cm x 83.8cm) in size, making it suitable for virtually all decks. \r\n      For wider decks and longboards there are also larger sheets with different levels of granularity. \r\n      You should not, however, use ultra-rough longboard griptape for normal skateboarding, unless you\u2019re willing to buy a new pair of shoes every week.\r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n    <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      <a href=\"\/en\/skateboard-griptape\" title=\"Skateboard Griptape in the skatedeluxe Skate Shop\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/skateboard-griptape.jpg\" alt=\"Skateboard Griptapes at skatedeluxe\" title=\"Skateboard Griptapes\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/skateboard-griptape.jpg\" alt=\"Skateboard Griptapes at skatedeluxe\" title=\"Skateboard Griptapes\" \/><\/noscript><\/a>\r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n<div id=\"griptape-wear-tear-replacement-cleaning\" class=\"post clearfix padding-bottom\">\r\n  <div class=\"hide-for-small large-2 columns\">\r\n    <div class=\"date-day\">2<\/div>\r\n    <div class=\"date-month\">Griptape Wear &#038; Tear, Replacement, Cleaning<\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n\r\n  <div class=\"large-10 columns\">\r\n    <h2 class=\"margin-bottom\">2. Griptape Wear &#038; Tear, Replacement, Cleaning<\/h2>\r\n\r\n    <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      Over time, griptape wears out due to the constant friction between its surface and your shoes, slowly but surely, smoothing the grain. \r\n      Tricks will become more difficult and imprecise as your griptape wears down. Don\u2019t panic though, this doesn\u2019t mean you immediately need to get a new deck. New griptape can often work wonders. \r\n    <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n    <div class=\"row\">\r\n      <div class=\"small-12 medium-6 columns\">\r\n            <p align=\"justify\">\r\n      Worn out griptape is best removed by using a hair dryer. \r\n      The hot air liquefies the adhesive, allowing the griptape to easily peel off. Then you can simply apply a new layer of grip tape.   \r\n    <\/p>\r\n        <p align=\"justify\">\r\n          <small>\r\n            Tip: In the event that a small amount of adhesive residue is left on the deck, you have two options. <br>\r\n            Option 1: Apply the new griptape directly on top of it. Option 2: Rub down the residue with nail polish remover and scrape it off carefully afterwards. \r\n          <\/small>\r\n        <\/p>\r\n\r\n        <p align=\"justify\">\r\n         If you do end up having dust and dirt traces on your griptape, you can remove them with a griptape cleaner. A griptape cleaner removes dust and unwanted blemishes,\r\n         cleans your griptape and makes it more durable. Th video shows you how it all works. This way, you avoid trapping air between the griptape and deck. Should small bubbles occur nevertheless, you can fix it by poking a small hole in the bubble with your griptape cutter, allowing the air to escape.    \r\n       <\/p>\r\n     <\/div>\r\n\r\n   <\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n   <p align=\"justify\">\r\n    If all of this seems too complicated for your taste, you can also use an anti-bubble grip tape. In this case, continuous perforation in the griptape ensures that no bubbles can form when applying it. Any excess air between the deck and the griptape can easily escape through tiny holes in the tape.\r\n  <\/p>\r\n\r\n  <p align=\"justify\">\r\n    P.S. With grip jobs you can put your personal stamp on your skateboard and let your creativity run free.
