You always wanted to know how the DC Lynx Vulc TX would act as a skate shoe? Therefore, I laced it up, took it out to the street-lab and tested it.
The DC Lynx Vulc TX
DC Shoes was founded near San Diago in 1994 by Ken Block and Damon Way, Danny Way’s elder brother. The DC Lynx was one of the most popular DC shoes in the late 90s. Now they rebuilt it with a smaller silhouette and a vulcanized sole. The tested version is even slimmer having a thin canvas upper.
General Fit & Feeling

The DC Lynx Vulc TX feels good and familiar to your feet right away. It‘s no problem to skate it straight out of the box. The vulcanized sole gives a great board feel and a lot of grip. The canvas makes the shoe very light. It almost feels like you were barefooted as your feet tightly fit the shoe and don‘t slip around in it. And you’ll always feel comfortable inside the Lynx TX.
Concerning flip tricks: The Lynx definitely knows how to handle them. It gives you a proper flick that can be easily controlled. The canvas just won‘t last for too many flip tricks, though, as you maybe could have imagined yourself.
One disadvantage of the canvas might be obvious: it hurts a lot when your board hits your feet. You’ll have to grit your teeth when it happens. And you know it will happen! Smaller stair sets are no problem for this shoe but for the bigger impact I would use another one as the damping of the sole seems not to be made for it.
Durability

The Canvas is really light and breathable but its downside is the durability. After a couple sessions, the first layer of the Ollie area is done and the second one starts to rub off as well. The outsole and the sole in general perform really good and will last way longer than the canvas. Using ShoeGoe might improve the lifespan of the canvas! However, I would recommend buying the DC Lynx Vulc with suede on the upper because it performs better at skating. The tested model is more likely to be made for chill sessions and pushing from A to B on cosy summer days.
Conclusion
Because of its canvas upper, I was sceptical how the DC Lynx Vulc TX would act as a skate shoe. I have been avoiding to skate canvas shoes before. Although my feet felt very comfortable I have to say, that I had better skate shoes. The main reason for that is durability. The canvas rubbed off too fast. If you‘re searching for a comfortable and light shoe to cruise around in, it‘s a perfect choice, though.”
