Palace Skateboards = Founded for the local crew
Palace Skateboards founder Lev Tanju started his brand primarily to support his friends and locals. As part of the Palace Wayward Boy's Choir a.k.a. PWBC, he just wanted to give something back to his London community. So at his main spot, the South Banks, he sold various decks, clothes and goodies. In order to no longer rely on products and decks from the US, the idea of an own brand emerged.
Thus, today's Palace Crew was established way before the official founding. Thanks to the help of the illustrators Fergus Purcell and Will Bankhead, outstanding designs have been created to this day that stand out from the crowd. Also, a reason why Palace Skateboards could win the title "European Skateboard Brand Of The Year 2012". Even the prestigious Tate Britain Museum has already exhibited Palace's designs and products - a brand that fully embodies the state of the art.
From London's South Bank into the World - The Road to Success by Palace Skateboards
First attention was given to the group with their PWBC Global Skateboard News videos. The satirical edits in the style of a trashy newscast quickly made the rounds and brought the PWBC a certain notoriety. The brand was originally called PWBC, but ultimately, Lev Tanju opted for Palace - an ironic reference to the rather spotty apartment in which he lived at the time.
Today, this is a thing of the past and Palace is at the top of the list with two flagship stores in London and New York, as well as collections with adidas, Reebok, Umbro or Tate. Nevertheless, the brand never lost sight of the scene and therefore sponsor a free spot for the skaters of South London with the MWADLANDS Indoor Skate Park.
But thanks to the experimental attitude and the openness to various influences from the fashion world, not only skaters belong to the fans of the brand. Even stars such as Rihanna, Jay Z and Jonah Hill are now seen more often in Palace clothing. Jonah Hill has even become the mascot of the brand and often appears in Ads by Palace Skateboards.
The Palace Skate Team - London's Finest
Initially, the Palace Skate Team was primarily an association of old friends and locals, but today's team has grown a lot. With team riders like Lucien Clarke, Lucas Puig, Chewy Cannon, Benny Fairfaix, Danny Brady, Heitor da Silva, Ville Vester, Charlie Birch, Jahmir Brown, Sean Powers, Rory Milanes, Karim Bakhtaoui, Charlie Young, Olly Todd and Torey Goodall, Lev Tanju has been able to get some big names from the European scene on the roster.
Skaters like Rory Milanes and Blondey McCoy really got into the spotlight of the international scene thanks to the Palace Skate Team. Ever since the full-length "Palasonic" they have become indispensable and Blondey McCoy has become the new shooting star for adidas skateboarding. Something very reasonable as you can see with their full-length:
