Uppers: durability & breathability
Skate shoes sometimes experience the most wear and tear in skateboarding. That's why Vans Pro Skate shoes are made of particularly resilient materials. Suede, leather & canvas are also used for standard Vans shoes. However, Vans Pro Skate shoes are made of a sophisticated mix of materials that make high-wear areas more durable. Therefore, the toe area, ollie area and heel region are reinforced with suede, while canvas is used in the lower-impact areas to ensure breathability of the Skate Pro models.
Outsoles: grip & flexibility
Above all, Vans have become famous for the grip of their Waffle outsole. Vans Pro shoes are keeping with the tradition and developing it further. The Pro models with vulcanized soles, like the Rowan Pro, feature a higher foxing tape to accommodate the abrasion caused by griptape and keep the classic Waffle pattern on the outsole. The cupsole constructions of Vans' Pro shoes have various patterns that are denser in high-wear areas for added durability. The Vans Skate Pro shoes have different technologies and give each model its specific characteristics depending on their interaction.
DURACAP
Behind the name DURACAP is a Vans construction, which makes Vans Pro skate shoes more durable. The DURACAP is a plastic cap reinforcement that is located between the upper material and the lining in the forefoot region of the models. Once you've skated through the upper of your Vans Pro shoes, DURACAP extends the life of your Vans.
SickStick
SickStick is what Vans calls a special rubber compound for skate shoe outsoles. SickStick soles are more durable than conventional Vans outsoles and provide more grip without losing flexibility and boardfeel.
LuxLiner
The LuxLiner construction includes a sockliner which is located on the front inside of some Vans Pro models. It is a kind of extension of the tongue that lines the inside of the shoe. The LuxLiner minimizes pressure and friction points and guarantees a comfortable fit.
RapidWeld
In the RapidWeld construction, the upper of the skate shoe is not sewn together, but is "welded" together by a heat-based process. This makes the panels almost inseparable and thus guarantees maximum durability of the uppers.

Vans uses different outsole constructions for the Pro models, which are tailored to the needs of each team rider.
UltimateWaffle
The UltimateWaffle construction is built into the AVE Pro and combines grip, cushioning, flexibility and boardfeel in a well-designed cup sole. The special feature of the sole is the integrated shank between the outsole and midsole, which makes the shoe incredibly flexible while still provding stability.
WaffleControl
The WaffleControl sole was designed according to the "less is more" approach. It is a cup sole construction with deep recesses at the heel and a dense profile in the forefoot area. The sole, which you'll find in the Berle Pro, among others, offers you boardfeel, cushioning and a lot of grip.
Vans Wafflecup
The Wafflecup construction can best be described as a combination of cup and vulcanized sole. Additional foxing tape in the forefoot area provides boardfeel with the flick of vulcanized shoes, while the midfoot and heel area benefit from the stability and cushioning of cup sole models. The Wafflecup technology can be found in the Vans Kyle Walker Pro, for example.
Pro Vulc Lite
The Pro Vulc Lite sole is a lighter version of Vans' classic vulcanized sole. Higher foxing tape gives this construction increased durability. As part of the Vans Chima Pro 2, the Pro Vulc Lite construction proves its worth through boardfeel, flexibility and grip.

Vans AVE Pro
The Vans AVE Pro is probably the most technical skate shoe in the Vans Pro range. According to the motto "Demand Perfect", the Anthony van Engelen Pro model combines the LuxLiner, RapidWeld, DURACAP and UltimateWaffle construction in one shoe. A combination of suede, synthetic panels and mesh uppers make the AVE Pro both functional and durable. As our wear test showed, the AVE Pro is an extremely long-lasting skate shoe that scores points thanks to its construction, offering a lot of boardfeel and general versatility.

Vans Berle Pro
The Berle Pro is the flagship of the Vans WaffleControl construction and makes a huge impression with its cushioning properties, despite its minimal material and padding. Durability, grip and boardfeel are to the Vans Berle Pro as style is to its namesake Elijah Berle. A mix of canvas and suede or leather in the high-wear areas makes the Berle Pro resistant and breathable. Thanks to LuxLiner, the Berle Pro is also quite comfortable and suitable for all kinds of skateboarding. The Berle Pro passed our wear test with flying colours.

Vans Rowan Pro
Rowan Zorillas Pro skate shoe focuses on boardfeel owing to the vulcanized construction. The combination of the SickStick sole and PopCush footbed offers a balanced feel, cushioning and support. The Rowan Pro also uses suede and canvas or synthetic upper material. Generous padding around the ankle and its elastic tongue straps provide an optimal fit that allows for a technical skate style as well as bangers - in line with Rowan's style. Vans Kyle Walker Pro
The Vans Kyle Walker Pro is an exact replica of Kyle Walker's skate style and was designed to meet his needs. The Wafflecup construction provides sufficient boardfeel as well as cushioning during heavier impacts, which is perfectly supported by the PopCush insole. The composition of the uppder aligns with the Vans gold standard of suede at the heel and forefoot, paired with canvas in the middle of the shoe. Balanced padding and a classic look also characterize the Kyle Walker Pro. With this shoe you don't have to shy away from gaps.
It's not only the profile of the Vans Kyle Pro 2 outsole that's been reworked. Kyle Walker's second Vans Pro model has adopted the Velcro design of the Vans Slip-On EXP Pro and while reducing tongue padding. Vans Gilbert Crockett Pro
Gilbert Crockett has already received his second Signature Model from Vans. The Vans Gilbert Crockett Pro 2 has the same technologies and upper materials as the Kyle Walker Pro, but when you look closely, the differences are more pronounced. Designed less for impact skateboarding and more for maximum control, the Crockett Pro comes with more subtle padding and a signature tread pattern that provides boardfeel, flexibility and grip.
The Gilbert Crockett Pro High is an evolution of the Crockett Pro 2, with minimal padding and higher lacing for a perfect fit and more control. Statement from Gilbert Crockett: "Better flick than with the Lows." If you're familiar with Crockett's footage, you know what to expect.

Vans Chima Pro
The first Chima Ferguson Pro shoe from Vans was also trimmed for minimalism. The Vans Chima Pro 2 is a seamless continuation of this and presents itself as a skate shoe that's characterized by a lot of boardfeel, low weight, durability and a timeless look. Canvas and suede go hand in hand with small leather details. The construction is ideal for technical tricks, but also allows for spots with impact. What's more, the reduced padding and just a hint of toe and heel cap ensure the Chima Pro 2's excellent performance.

Vans Skate Classics - The reworked Vans Pro Classics
The Vans Skate Classics line replaces the Pro Classic models and presents the Vans classics with new features. The upper material of the Vans Skate Classics has been improved and the heel area also got a comfortable update. Elastic tongue straps stabilize the tongue of these skate shoes and provide a snug fit. While the DURACAP has been re-cut for each model to provide improved breathability and maximum durability, all Skate Classics come with PopCush insoles.
The outsole of the Skate Classics has also been redesigned. The vulcanized models have a larger knurl texture foxing tape on the forefoot. Skate Classic shoes come with SickStick soles, which have a shank in the heel for flexibility and stability. In combination with the increased tread depth of the outsoles, these updates provide optimal grip, a lot of boardfeel and all-around durability for the Skate Classic shoes. You can recognize the Skate Classics for example by the checkered flag on the side or the "Skateboarding" branding on the insoles of the shoes.
