Founded in 1994 as a subsidiary brand of Girl, it’s now impossible to imagine the skateboarding world without Chocolate Skateboards. Over the years, the company, which was initially a small business under the patronage of Crailtap, grew to a substantial size. This is due to a very influential team, as well as their video classics. From Gino Iannucci's "The Chocolate Tour" to Elijah Berle’s part in "Pretty Sweet" - Chocolate inspired generations of skateboarders. In recent years, some newcomers have brought a fresh wind into the team without forgetting the company's roots. Today, Chocolate Skateboards decks and T-shirts can be found in almost every skatepark on the planet.
The Beginning: from Sister to Chocolate
Chocolate began as a sister company to Girl Skateboards. While the established pros were under contract with Girl, a team of promising talents gathered around Chico Brenes. The company was almost founded under the name Sister, but their rival and then-owner of World Industries prematurely secured the rights to the name in an attempt to wipe out the competition posed by the Girl crew around Rick Howard and Mike Carroll. So “Sister” became “Chocolate Skateboards”, and after a couple years, names like Gino Iannucci, Stevie Williams, Marc Johnson, Paulo Diaz, and Keenan Milton were all skating Chocolate decks.
Fresh wind in the Chocolate Team

In the period prior to Chocolate’s 20th anniversary in 2014, the team was reinforced by Kenny Anderson, Chico Brenes, Justin Eldridge, Jesus Fernandez, Chris Roberts and Raven Tershy. With Vincent Alvarez, a new rider came under contract who embodies the rough LA street style of Chocolate like no other. Raven Tershy, Elijah Berle and Stevie Perez were able to celebrate their debut in the team together with Girl Skateboards produced full-length video "Pretty Sweet". As the newest member, Jerry Hsu rounds off the current chocolate team.
The graphics mastermind Evan Hecox
You can’t talk about Chocolate Skateboards and their designs without mentioning Evan Hecox. The artist, from Colorado, created the design used as the logo and a large portion of the Chocolate skateboard deck designs. His style influences the overall appearance of the company and makes you want to hang your Chocolate deck on the wall. For the 2015 skatedeluxe x Chocolate collab collection, Evan Hecox lent his hand, transforming the skatedeluxe lettering into Chocolatey goodness. In addition to the skateboard decks, Evan’s graphics always manage to find their way onto Chocolate T-shirts, long sleeves, caps, and even skateboard wheels.
