Probably the funniest company in the skateboard business has made a name for itself in a very short time and supplies you with the very best wood for the street. The skateboard industry has experienced some change in recent years. The pool of larger brands is gradually overflowing and new, small labels are sprouting from the ground like the tulips in the spring. Grant Yansura - former rider for Stereo Skateboards and current filmmaker for Nike SB - has also hopped on this train. After his mate Raymond Molinar and Habitat Skateboards decided to go their separate ways, the idea of starting their own company was tossed around.

What started as a hilarious segment on theberrics.com under the name "Weekendtage", began to take shape and eventually became serious ... well, a little bit at least. Since then, the guys at WKND, who currently reside in sunny Los Angeles, produce excellent skateboard decks and inspire with fresh graphics and an obligatory pinch of humour.

With mum’s old station waggon as their first office, an extremely flat hierarchy and a do-it-yourself attitude, WKND is one of the most appealing brands on the market. Every rider takes part in the game and keeps the store running – this is no place for attitudes. A simple concept, which also applies to the design of the decks. A logo without all the frills, which is adaptable and memorable – exactly as it should be!

But while we’re on the topic, you a good portion of wit can’t be forgotten. Just honestly: to announce a legend like Eric Koston as their very first pro, and kick him to the kerb after two days? A real stroke of genius for a wild action that won’t be quickly forgotten.

Good vibes, not just on the weekend - the WKND team

To be taken seriously as a company while still maintaining the image of a sympathetic circus clown is a balancing act at which many have failed. However, somehow the guys at weekend managed to do it. You can tell that the crew that are simply good friends, who just want to get into some mischief and happen to also skate really well.

The team also includes Christian Maalouf, Alex Schmidt, Andrew Considine, Trevor Thompson, Jordan Taylor and Taylor Caruso. No wonder the clips from this young brand always hit like a bomb and inspire at all levels. After all, Yansura's cinematography work is definitely something worth watching. Music from the 80s and 90s, mixed with a touch of pop culture, and the high-calibre skateboarding by the team make every clip, whether ad or video part, an undeniable must-see. We like!
