I'm not sure if it's a placebo or if they really work, but since I started skating with these insoles, the knee pain I used to get after skating (I'm 30) has gone away. As for the gel inside, I'm not really convinced - it moves around when you walk and properly doesn't do much to support the arch. If I were choosing again, I'd go for the version without the gel inside. But for saving my knees, I'm giving them 5/5
