Without question, there should be griptape on your skateboard deck. Griptape provides you with a strong stand while riding your board and gives you more control over your skateboard when you’re performing tricks. The skatedeluxe online skate shop has a lot of griptape in many variations for you in store. Whether you’re into classic black griptape, coloured variations or griptape with graphics - here you will find the right one for your setup. Just put it on your board and start skating!
Which griptape is right for you?
The black stuff that looks like sandpaper on top of many skateboards is called griptape. Not only does griptape vary in different designs, but in granulation, or roughness, as well. Skateboards with smooth griptape are easier to flip, while coarse griptape provides you with a better hold.
Which griptape you choose, is simply a matter of taste. If you like it really grippy, you should take a look at the griptape from MOB. For technical skating, however, we would recommend a smoother griptape. In that case, you should check out the griptape by Grizzly. Since we examine every griptape very carefully, you can use the filter option “griptape roughness” to easily find the type of griptape you desire.
Griptape - more than just black and white
After many years of skating, you’re sick of black griptape? We’ll bring a breath of fresh air to your setup! Using the filter option “colour”, you’ll find many coloured variations. Furthermore, we’ve got plenty of griptape with graphics or die-cuts.
If your creative mind needs more options, you should definitely check out clear griptape. It’s transparent, so you can design the top of your deck yourself. By the way, when you buy a new skateboard deck in our shop, you’ll receive a SK8DLX griptape for free!
Is anything else important?
A standard sheet of skateboard griptape is 33” x 9” large (1 Inch = 2.54 cm). Therefore, they fit almost every deck you’ll find in our shop. If you choose a really wide deck, like some of the oldskool decks, we would recommend that you look for longboard griptape with smooth or medium granulation. There you’ll find griptape up to 11” wide. Coarse longboard griptape is really not appropriate for skateboarding because you’ll hardly be able to do Ollies and they’ll eat up your shoes in no time. Relatively new in skateboarding are 9” x 9” square 4-packs. If you like to make cool patterns on your board with your griptape, these might come in handy.
Bubble-free thanks to perforated griptape
Skateboard griptape is often perforated, as is the case with our SK8DLX Core II griptape, which you will receive for free when you buy a skateboard deck in our shop. You can read more on everything you need to know about skateboard griptape in our Skateboard Griptape Wiki. There, you’ll learn how to clean dirty griptape or how to exchange old griptape.
